Position Summary
The Med-Surg Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to patients while ensuring quality, safety, comfort, and dignity throughout their healthcare experience. Working collaboratively with physicians and interdisciplinary team members, the nurse is responsible for implementing physician orders, assessing patient needs, monitoring patient progress, and delivering evidence-based care with professionalism and compassion.
This role involves caring for patients in the inpatient/Med-Surg Unit and requires strong clinical judgment, flexibility, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Essential Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, high-quality nursing care to patients from admission through discharge
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing reassessments
- Monitor patient conditions and promptly recognize changes requiring intervention
- Communicate effectively with physicians and healthcare team members regarding patient status and treatment plans
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and patient hemodynamic status
- Perform point-of-care testing in accordance with hospital policies and laboratory standards
- Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, outcomes, and care plans
- Assess, manage, and educate patients on pain management strategies
- Promote patient safety and reduce the risk of healthcare errors
- Develop and implement individualized patient and family education plans
- Maintain a therapeutic environment that supports healing and comfort
- Foster positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues
- Support departmental goals and participate as an active member of the healthcare team
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (LPN, ADN, or BSN)
- Minimum of two (2) years of hospital nursing experience preferred
- Telemetry experience preferred
- Current Oklahoma Nursing License or Compact License
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational and patient education skills
- Ability to provide care to adult and geriatric patient populations
- Knowledge of continuous quality improvement principles
Computer Skills
- Basic computer proficiency
- Experience with electronic health record documentation
- Familiarity with EPOWERdoc preferred
Required Certifications
- Current RN License
- Current BLS Certification
- Current ACLS Certification
- Current PALS Certification
Schedule
- PRN Position
- 12-Hour Night Shifts
- Weekend Availability Required
- Monday through Friday Opportunities Available
- Holiday Coverage as Needed
